Until I started The Smart Phone Diet you could pretty well count on the fact that my morning would start with a trip to Starbucks to get a venti 1/2 caf w/milk, only to return about an hour later for another free refill. Time, gas and extra expense, but a ritual I enjoy.
Breakfast might be something on the run, and more often than not, everyday it was lunch and dinner out. Now it's not that Kim and I can't cook, like my Starbucks morning runs, it was more habit than anything else.
So as I started thinking through and testing my blueprint for The Smart Phone Diet over the past couple of months I noticed that I actually started looking forward to planning, shopping and cooking again. I've always been know as a pretty good cook, but for whatever reason, until recently, other than an occasional home cooked meal or two we were eating out all the time.
But something has fundamentally changed in me that has not only turned on my desire to cook again, I'm noticing a strong desire to become more connected to what I'm thinking and preparing to eat.
I'm enjoying the smell of fresh coffee brewing every morning. I'm finding a new enjoyment in finding healthy and delicious recipes online. I'm seeking out cooking meals that are less complicated, with foods and flavors that are still robust, but simpler. I'm even noticing that my sense of smell and taste has heightened.
So that's my musings for the day, this is what I ate.
Home brewed coffee w/1%.
For breakfast I baked some Boar's Head thick cut bacon which I prefer to bake bacon now than fry it up. And back to noticing my senses, how great the house smelled of coffee brewing and bacon in the oven. I had a piece of dry whole grain toast and one egg and one egg white with ketchup.
After breakfast we had to run some errands and since were going right past a Starbucks I decided to get a venti for the ride.
It looks kind of disgusting, but around 12 I had part of a whole grain baguette w/cashew butter. And then around 2 I had a very tasty yet simple salad of baby arugula olive oil and shaved Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese and another piece of the baguette and a bowl of navy bean, spinach and chicken sausage soup.
We've got a business meeting at Arturo's later in the evening so I had a Dannon yogurt to tide me over.
Our meeting ran late at Arturo's so we ended up eating dinner there after eight. By the time I ordered I was getting pretty hungry. So hungry in fact that I missed taking pictures of some of what I ate, not much, but a little. What I missed was a small portion of Jen's cavatelli and some of her salad. I ordered their amazing meatballs and salad w/cranberries, red onions and goat cheese.
