Late last night I started reading Daniel Pink's latest book, DRIVE "The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us." As I was skimming through the table of contents I figured any book about motivation must have something about weight loss or exercise, and there it was on page 201... "The Type I Fitness Plan: Four Tips For Getting [and Staying] Motivated to Exercise."
Two pages of a quick read with great advice, but what really caught my eye was a web site I had never heard of before called Stickk. This morning I checked it out, loved what they had set up, so much so that I joined to put some additional leverage to see 199lbs on the scale before 2010 is over.
With my 2003 release of mypetfat and my most recent publication and ongoing development of The Smart Phone Diet I'm obviously not afraid to publicly share my weight loss challenges and successes, but I have to say that Stickk really looks like a great plug-in not only for The Smart Phone Diet, but any diet or exercise plan.
In simple terms the site asks you what your goal is, they list the usual suspects, but you can also create a custom goal. Then they walk you through a few simple registration steps. You're prompted to either monitor yourself or designate a ref. Do what you want, but I think if you've got a better chance to achieve your goal if you designate someone other than yourself to make sure you stay on track. My whole family has committed to support each other in 2010 to lose weight and exercise more so I've included my wife Kim and son Matthew on my support team, but my daughter Jennifer is going to be my ref.
I plan to lose "weigh" more than a 1lb a week, but that's the maximum weight loss default they allow you to set up. And when you think about it how really hard is that for any of us to achieve. 1 little lb week by week would add up to 52 lbs in a year.
The other extra added incentive or leverage you can into the mix is a weekly financial commitment that for every week you either don't check in, or didn't meet your weekly goal, a payment will be made from you to a charity, friend or foe...
Any"weigh" check it out for your self, what have you got to lose...
And "mucho motivating" thanks to Daniel Pink for the tip!
